Cedric Villani The Cambridge Union

Cedric Villani is a prominent French mathematician who is known for his work on the theory of partial differential equations related to statistics mechanics.
In 2010 he was awarded the Fields Medal for his proofs of nonlinear Landau damping and convergence to equilibrium for the Boltzmann equation.
Villani received his Ph.D in Mathematics in 1998 from École Normale Supérieure.
Since then he has written 50 research papers and two reference books on optimal transport theory.
Villani is currently the director of the Institut Henri Poincaré a mathematics research institute in Paris and a professor at the University of Lyon.
Apart from his academic success Villani is also often commended by the media for his fashion sense and vibrant personality.
Villani is due to a release a book Birth of a Theorem: A Mathematical Adventure in April 2015.
