A lock is a player with a relatively high confidence interval ranking noticeable above the rest of the options in terms of expected fantasy output compared to their price using series of equations I formulated for each position taking into account expected performance for that position. A lottery is a player with a relatively lower confidence interval using the same equations and formulas as the locks but still noticeably distinguished from the rest of the players.
Where there may be only one or two locks at each position there are typically several lotteries and the lotteries included are selected based on how they fit into the lineup based on price and optimal projections. After the projections and calculations are finished I have a separate program that simulates all possible combinations of all players offered in the slate and it returns the optimal combination of players while staying under the budget ranked by the previously calculated projected fantasy points. Using many mathematical equations and a series of C programs I was able to put together a method and model that allows me to give you the best lineup possible during a given slate of games.
